for one person on their own... or up to eight people
Starting from Truro ... but we can start at your hotel/B&B from anywhere in Cornwall... we go to Newquay taking a look at Pentire Head, Fistral Beach (Europe's main surfers' beach... ), the Headland, the Hewer's Hut, and the Harbour before travelling up the north coast towards Padstow where Prideaux House was built in Elizabethan times and where the Prideaux-Brune family have lived since those times (visit Prideaux Place... visiting times vary).
Completed in 1592, the house has been enlarged and modified by successive generations. Today it combines the traditional E-shape of Elizabethan architecture with the 18th century exuberance of Horace Walpole’s Strawberry Hill Gothic. The house is filled with treasures, including royal and family portraits, fine furniture and the Prideaux Porcelain Collection. The recently uncovered ceiling in the Great Chamber is a masterpiece of the Elizabethan plasterer’s art.
Allow between 1.5 and 2.5 hours at Prideaux Place.
For lunch we have several options.
OPTION ONE: Eat in Padstow... lots of options... the Harbour Inn being a good one!
OPTION TWO: Eat at the Plume and Feathers Inn at Mitchell.
OPTION THREE: Eat at Trerice manor... our second house today and another National Trust property.
Our second house today is Trerice Manor.
A delightful small Elizabethan manor house, Trerice is an architectural gem hidden away from the world in a web of narrow lanes and still somehow caught in the spirit of its age. Behind the Dutch-style gabled facade are ornate fireplaces, elaborate plaster ceilings and a collection of English furniture of the highest quality. Featured as Francis Poldark's home in the Poldark TV series (books by Winston Grahame).
Visit a website for Trerice House - visiting times vary
Allow between 1.5 and 3 hours at Trerice Manor.
If time, energy and enthusiasm allow, return to Truro (or where you are staying) via Crantock, Polly Joke, Holywell Bay and Perranporth... where we could find the Lost Church of St Piran (to complete your sight seeing for the day!)
If other Cornish Gardens have more appeal, just let us know and these will be the ones we visit.
And if you'd just like to go to just one Cornish Garden - say The Eden project - we'll provide a PRICE QUOTATION FOR TRANSPORT FROM AND BACK TO YOUR HOTEL/B&B
- ON REQUEST.
